Perhaps you've already asked yourself:
What exactly is "Abhalten"?
Elimination Communication means you give your baby the opportunity to eliminate outside of a diaper – for example, over a sink, a toilet, a suitable bowl, or a potty.
Many families use recurring moments in everyday life for this, such as after waking up, during diaper changes, or around breastfeeding and feeding times.
The diaper can still serve as a reliable backup. Elimination Communication is not an all-or-nothing.
Why so many families hold back

Holding may be quite simple
You don't have to adopt a specific method or change your entire daily routine.
What matters is not how often you practice elimination communication or how many eliminations land outside the diaper. What matters is finding a way that feels good for you and your baby.
ONE OF THE MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Isn't elimination communication a lot of effort?
Elimination communication is much simpler than it sounds at first.
You don't have to constantly watch your baby, recognize every signal, or completely forgo diapers. Many families start with a single, well-fitting moment in their daily routine.
Over time, you'll figure out which situations work for you. Elimination communication should adapt to your family's daily life – not the other way around.
What do you really need to get started?
You don't need to buy anything new for your first elimination communication attempt.
If you want to integrate elimination communication more frequently into your daily routine, a quick-opening EC diaper with suitable inserts can make many things easier. An EC potty is a practical addition, but not a prerequisite.
Which diaper and inserts are right for your baby depends primarily on their size and developmental stage.
