Lanolin Wool Wax
Lanolin is used to restore the moisture-repellent properties of wool nappy covers and to care for wool textiles. The German product information also lists topical skin uses, including care for dry skin, cold sores, wounds and irritated skin around the nose.
Contents: 150 g
Manufacturer: POPOLINI, made in Germany.
BHT-free, residue-controlled and compliant with Ph. Eur. standards.
Why re-lanolise wool? As a wool nappy cover is worn, some of its lanolin gradually wears away. An occasional lanolin bath helps restore its moisture resistance and care for the wool fibres.
What you'll need
- Lanolin
- Warm water
- A bowl or sink
- Washing-up liquid
- Towels
How to lanolise merino wool, step by step
- Prepare the wool: Make sure the garment is clean. If it is heavily soiled, wash it first according to the care instructions.
- Prepare the lanolin: Dissolve pure lanolin in warm water. You can use approximately one teaspoon of lanolin per litre of water. For an even mixture, dissolve the lanolin in hot water first, then add cold water.
- Add washing-up liquid: Add a small squirt until the lanolin bath turns milky white.
- Soak the wool: Immerse the clean merino wool completely so that the mixture can reach the fibres evenly.
- Leave to soak: Ideally, leave the wool in the lanolin bath overnight. This gives the lanolin time to work into the fibres and restore their softness and water-repellent properties.
- Gently remove excess water: Carefully squeeze the wool without wringing it, for example between two towels. Alternatively, spin it in the washing machine at 400–800 rpm.
- Dry: If the wool is still very wet, lay it flat on a towel or drying rack. After a good spin, it can also be hung on a drying rack.
Depending on how often the wool is used, re-lanolising every few weeks may be helpful. This helps maintain its natural softness and moisture resistance.
