What does GOTS certified mean?

Especially for clothes that babies wear directly on their skin, many parents want materials they can trust.

If you delve deeper into baby clothing, you will inevitably encounter one term again and again: GOTS certified

Many families today consciously pay attention to this, especially for clothing made of wool and other natural materials. And for us at Mata Origin, it also plays an important role.

Not because a seal makes everything perfect. But because we believe that clothing for babies should be chosen with care.

Babies often wear clothes directly on their skin for many hours. They sleep in them, play in them, are carried in them, and cuddle up in them. Precisely for this reason, material quality, workmanship, and trust do not feel like minor matters to us. For us, they are at the core of a good product.

That is why we consciously use GOTS certified materials for many of our wool products.

What does GOTS actually mean?

GOTS stands for:

Global Organic Textile Standard

This is an internationally recognized standard for textiles made from natural fibers.

If a product is GOTS certified, it means that certain requirements must be met throughout the manufacturing process. This applies not only to the material itself but also to many steps of its processing.

For many families, GOTS is therefore a helpful guide when they want to shop more consciously.

Especially in the area of baby clothing, many parents want materials that feel trustworthy, high-quality, and pleasant.

You can find more information about the standard directly on the official Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) website.

Why this is important to us at Mata Origin

At Mata Origin, we develop clothing that accompanies families in their real everyday lives.

Clothing is worn, washed, passed on, loved, and sometimes used daily. Precisely for this reason, we want to use materials that not only feel good but have also been chosen thoughtfully.

Many families use Mata Origin clothing because they want a real alternative. Clothing that feels more natural. Calmer. More conscious. Less of a disposable product and more of a favorite piece.

That is precisely why we now use GOTS certified materials for almost all our products.

We believe that high-quality materials can make a difference. Especially for clothing that accompanies babies so closely.

What does GOTS certified mean specifically?

Many people first think only of organic cotton. In fact, GOTS encompasses much more.

The certification considers various areas of manufacturing and processing.

These include, among others:

Natural fibers from controlled origins

For many materials, this means they come from controlled organic cultivation.

Especially for baby clothing, many families find this reassuring.

Strict processing requirements

Certain specifications also apply to processing. Many problematic substances and processes are restricted or excluded.

This does not mean that a product automatically becomes perfect. But it creates clear standards and more transparency.

The official GOTS Standard explains in detail what requirements GOTS places on materials and processing.

More conscious use of resources

Environmental aspects also play a role in GOTS. These include, among other things, certain requirements for processing steps and production conditions.

At Mata Origin, we pay very close attention to how products are created and what values they represent.

Social criteria along the production chain

GOTS considers not only materials but also certain minimum social standards within manufacturing.

For us, this is also part of a more conscious approach to clothing.

Why wool is so special to us

Wool has accompanied families for generations.

It warms without overheating. It feels soft. It can absorb moisture and often provides a pleasant feeling on the skin.

Especially in everyday life with babies, many families experience wool as something very special.

For us at Mata Origin, wool therefore fits wonderfully with clothing that supports families in their everyday lives.

• Elimination communication diapers
Elimination communication pants
• Wool clothing for babies
• Clothing for diaper-free families

the material plays a big role.

Many parents tell us that wool feels different to them than many other fabrics. Warmer. Calmer. More natural.

GOTS certified does not mean perfection to us

This is important to us, because no seal in the world automatically makes a product perfect. And GOTS is not just a magical stamp either.

But we believe that conscious decisions matter.

For us, GOTS primarily means:

• more transparency
• more guidance
• more trust in materials
• and a more conscious look at manufacturing and quality

Especially for products that accompany babies every day.

Independent consumer portals and media have also rated GOTS for years as one of the most important standards for sustainable textiles. The clear environmental and social criteria as well as the control along the entire production chain are particularly valued.

Consumer Advice Center on GOTS

The Consumer Advice Center explains GOTS as an important standard for ecological and socially responsible textiles.

Der Spiegel on GOTS

Major media outlets like SPIEGEL also report on GOTS as one of the best-known and strictest textile seals in the area of sustainable fashion.

Utopia on GOTS

The sustainability portal Utopia describes GOTS as one of the most comprehensive environmental certificates in the textile sector.

Why many families consciously look for GOTS certified baby clothing

Many parents start to choose products differently, at the latest when they have a baby.

Suddenly you ask yourself questions like:

• How does the fabric actually feel?
• How was the clothing made?
• What is my baby wearing directly on their skin all day?
• And which products do I want to support long-term?

It's often not about perfection. But about a good feeling.

Many families today want more durable products, more conscious materials, and clothing that feels calm and high-quality.

Precisely for this reason, many parents consciously look for GOTS certified clothing.

Our perspective at Mata Origin

We believe in clothing that can accompany families.

In materials that feel good.
In products that are not only practical but also consciously chosen.
And in an everyday life that doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful.

That is why we consciously use GOTS certified materials for many of our wool products.

Not because a label solves everything. But because quality, transparency, and trust are important to us.

Especially for the smallest people.

FOR GETTING STARTED

Is abstention new to you?

Here you'll find a simple start – without pressure, without perfection. Just what works for you.

TO THE GETTING STARTED GUIDE

Frequent questions about holding meetings

Many parents have similar questions at the beginning. Here you will find the most important answers at a glance.

When can I start with the training?

You can start from day one. Many parents start right after birth – others weeks or months later. Both are perfectly fine. Your baby is born with the ability.

Do I have to completely stop using diapers?

No. Elimination Communication (EC) does not mean you stop using diapers. Many families combine both very casually. It's not about perfection, but about communication with your baby.

What if I don't recognize my baby's cues?

That is completely normal at the beginning. Over time, you will understand your baby better and better. You can also use fixed times, for example, after sleeping or breastfeeding.

Isn't elimination communication stressful in everyday life?

Many parents experience quite the opposite. Fewer full diapers, less stress during diaper changes – and often calmer, clearer communication with the baby.

Does Elimination Communication (EC) work at night?

Yes, that's possible. Many babies also signal at night. The important thing is to find a way that is relaxed for both of you. It doesn't have to be perfect – every small step counts.

What do I do if it doesn't work out?

Then that's perfectly fine. Abstinence is not an all-or-nothing concept. You can pause at any time and re-engage later. Every attempt is a step forward.

What helps me the most with getting started?

Most important is trust in yourself and your baby. And sometimes small, thoughtful things can make everyday life easier – for example, clothing that can be opened quickly or a suitable elimination communication diaper.
